Devlog 3
This iteration of the game focused on making things more clear towards the player so there is little confusion when playing.
The first thing that I did was make some art for the cards that reflect what type of card they are. I went with a simple design for the cards, since they will not be fully visible when they are in the player's hand. Each card type is colored with a specific color that fits what type of attack they are, fire = red, water = blue etc. This will help to make it clear what type of cards you have even if you can only see the top of the cards. To further help make it clear what type of card you have, I added a number and arrows on the top of the card which tell you what direction the card has, and how many spaces out it reaches. This gives the player all the information that they would need about the card, so the card description text I have has become redundant, and I may remove it to free up space on the screen to help declutter it.
Here is what the cards look like when they are in the player's hand.
Here is what all the cards currently look like.
I also added a pause, game over, and title screen, so there is now there are the necessary screens aside from the main game screen.

pause screen
game over screen
After this I decided to work on a deck builder system. Up until this point the cards that the player got were randomly selected from all of the cards in the game. With a deck builder the player would be able to add in whatever cards they want and however many copies of a card that they want. This would help them build strategies around certain cards, and would allow them to test certain cards by including more of them in the deck.
Here is a sample deck I made that focuses on area control with the mines and fire.
After I made a simple how to play screen which tells the player the basics of how to play. I did not include specific details about card interactions since I want that to be something that players discover by themselves either through playing or experimenting.
Finally, I added a simple background to place the default color that unity has.
Until this point I didn't have much of an idea as to what style I want for the game but I decided on going something cybernetic/circuitry.
